If you watch one thing this month, watch Bo Burnham’s “Inside”…

I first heard about Bo Burnham’s new Netflix comedy special on TikTok, of all places.

My fyp was filled with clips, reactions + videos using sound from the special.

“Wow!” I thought, “This is certainly trending!”

Only to find out it’s not trending (it’s not even in Netflix’s Top 10 watches). One TikTok user snarkily informed their followers (with love): “it’s not trending, you’re just mentally ill.”

Taken aback? Yeah I was too.

Until I watched the special.

“Inside” is Bo Burnham’s 90 minute special filmed entirely by himself in his apartment during the 2020 lockdown.

It’s music as opposed to traditional standup format, and everything about it is just…

I can’t even begin to explain it.

I laughed, don’t get me wrong.

But the maw in my chest hurts, I’ve cried more times than I can count and the bottomline is; I think everyone needs to watch this.

It’s a harrowing look at mental illness, and multiple songs had me cringing at how much I could relate.

It casts a critical eye on the internet and social media.

It’s a funny, reverent, bittersweet look at our lives and the world we live in.

It is, quite frankly, the best comedy special I have ever seen.

Even though it made me cry.

Got it? Good, now get Inside.

Please watch it.

It made me feel slightly less alone.
